"The other
night my heart was broken once again.
This time coming after hearing about the murder of a young man(child),
Joseph "Lil JoJo" Coleman. I didn't
know him. However, when I look at
his picture online I'm reminded of my nephew - a couple years younger, living in
another city not too different than Southside Chicago. An overwhelming, yet familiar, sensation
came over me. It’s the same feeling I got when I saw
Trayvon Martin's picture.
Something's gotta give.
This song is
a culmination of the past few months for me. Seeing violence, ignorance, and
indifference plague the youth.
Seeing record executives with dollar signs in their eyes trying to
capitalize off these youth. Seeing
run of the mill journalists adding fuel to the promo fire because they want to
be ahead of the curve, or not be left out.
Seeing the striking divide in our country. Seeing the presidential election
approaching. Seeing the remnants
(or evolution) of the Occupy Wall Street movement, as well as conversations with
friends of mine who are current and former
organizers.
This song is
not meant to have the answers to anything. It's just me venting my thoughts and
concerns. Maybe it will resonate with some, and spark,
something."
Thanks for
listening.
PEACE and
PLUS energy
